Using OpenSUSE and sound isn't working

could be any number of things e.g. your user is not a member of the audio group, your kernel is not loading the modules for your soundcard/chip, etc

but let's try the most common fix - open a terminal and run
Code:
alsamixer

if there you see Master and PCM set to mute try raising the volume as per instructions - if that works then run the following
Code:
alsactl store

if the alsamixer approach didn't work, then post back the following
Code:
dmesg | grep Audio

Code:
lsmod
