I'm comparing the size of the borders/bars/"unusable space" from v56 on the phone to v57. It LOOKS to me like there's less display space and the borders bars and such take up more screen area. Like I said, it might not be true, but it LOOKS that way to me.

That could very well be the case; I don't usually have to be concerned about 10-20 pixels on my displays; you're probably doing a LOT more with your phone than I'm doing with mine (though I did have some "adventures" when I purchased the MOTO G5 Plus, since it wasn't being offered by any US based ISP - at least not when I purchased mine. Since then, I've simply used it and I've been very happy with it; nice to spend half the money and get a phone that does 90% of what the models that cost twice as much can do.

I wonder if the graphics space is changing because development higher ups are chanting stuff like 'Material Design' and junk like that. Decades of designing the user interface in one direction, then somebody tells us we wanted ... no, they say we asked for the changes. Not me!
